TPA Tournament Rule Book

Main Draw: 32 Couples Format (with Qualifiers)

1. Tournament Structure

  • The official TPA tournament main draw consists of 32 couples.

  • If the number of registered couples exceeds 32, the extra couples must compete in a qualification round.

    • 26 couples directly by TPA Points into the main draw

    • 2 couples wildcard

    • 4 qualifier winners advance to the main draw

    • Lucky Losers Draw (if needed)

  • The number of couples advancing from the qualifiers will depend on the total number of entries.

General structure:

  • Main Draw: 32 couples

  • Qualifiers: Played when entries exceed 32 couples

  • Advancing spots: Determined to complete the 32-couple main draw

2. Seeding System (Male Category)

The tournament uses a seeding system to ensure competitive balance.

Seed Positions in the Main Draw

  • Seed 1: Placed at the top of the draw

  • Seed 2: Placed at the bottom of the draw

  • Seeds 3 and 4:

    • Randomly drawn to occupy:

      • Position 8, or

      • Position 9

Seeds 5 and Below

  • Seeds 5 onward will be placed by lucky draw.

  • Placement follows a top-to-bottom sequence in the draw.

3. Qualifying Rounds

  • If the number of entries exceeds 32 couples, the lowest-ranked couples will enter the qualification phase.

  • Qualifiers will compete for the available spots in the main draw.

  • The number of qualifying rounds will depend on total registrations.
    Example:

  • 40 registered couples:

    • 26 couples directly by TPA Points into the main draw

    • 2 couples wildcard

    • 4 qualifier winners advance to the main draw

    • Lucky Losers Draw (if needed)

4. BYE Allocation

If the main draw is not full, BYEs will be assigned according to seeding priority.

Order of BYE allocation:

  1. First BYE → Seed 1

  2. Second BYE → Seed 2

  3. Third BYE → Seed 3

  4. Fourth BYE → Seed 4

  5. Continue in seed order if more BYEs are required

5. Draw Procedure

  1. Seeds are determined based on the official TPA ranking.

  2. Seeds 1 and 2 are placed directly in fixed positions.

  3. Seeds 3 and 4 are drawn randomly into their designated positions.

  4. Seeds 5 and below are drawn sequentially from top to bottom.

  5. Remaining spots are filled by:

    • Direct entries (non-seeded couples)

    • Qualifier winners

    • Lucky Losers Draw.

6. Match Format (Standard TPA Format – unless otherwise announced)

  • Matches are played in:

    • Best of 3 sets

    • FIP Standard scoring

7. General Regulations

  • All players must respect TPA codes of conduct.

  • Logos from other tours outside FIP & TPA will not be accepted.

  • Match schedules will be published the day before.

  • Late arrivals 15 minutes may result in walkover.

  • Any dispute will be resolved by the Tournament Director.
